Telling ghost stories

Yesterday, Paige came over after school to play. We shut the curtains in my room, got out our flashlights, and told ghost stories, to get excited about Halloween. Paige's story was spooky.

"Once," began Paige, " a girl named Mary moved into a spooky old house. Just like this one. The floors creaked at night, and whenever Mary was in her room, she heard footsteps walking above her head, where there was nothing, but an empty attic."

"One night, Mary was curious about what the noise was, pacing back and forth over the old floorboards. She told her dad about the noise, but he said it was probably just squirrels. Mary wasn't so sure. After a week of the frantic pacing, Mary decided to investigate the noise she heard. One night, she got her flashlight, and climbed the stairs to the dark attic. The pacing stopped. She knocked on the door. No sound. She unlocked the door, and went in. She gasped, dropping her flashlight.
Staring at her, was a giant mutant squirrel, with green goo dripping from it's mouth.
'It was a squirrel,' thought Mary. 'Dad was right!' But before she could move, the squirrel swallowed her whole, because her house was not haunted. It was built on a toxic waste dump.
There. paige set the mood for creepiness, then, surprised us. I like scary stories that are also funny.

  3. Brenna- I used to read my brother's old Goosebumps books, and that would be a great one! With a really scary picture on the front... I love scary stories, especially when they have a surprise ending like that.

Jess- That was so cool! The best part of telling scary stories is getting all set up in the dark with flashlights and all. It just makes the stories scarier and better to have it all dark and creepy when you tell them. And use a scary voice too. One time we really did hear noise at our house, knocking. It went from window to window, but when we looked out--nothing! Brenna and I got really scared but it went on for like, 45 minutes. We tried to turn up the TV real loud but there was a window right by it so the knocking was there...

Brenna- Yeah, and remember, it started at the door too. So we got a baseball bat and stood there, wondering if it was gonna try to get in. But it just kept going around the house. Finally we got braver and looked out at the same time, one in the front and one in the back. And guess what we saw?

    Jess- Yeah, guess. Anybody?

Brenna- OK, it was our stupid brother trying to scare us! He and his friend had been running around knocking on the windows and door. They had black sweats on so it was hard to see them in the dark.

Jess- We were pretty mad at those boys then, but now it makes a pretty cool "ghost" story. Especially in a creepy voice...
