Discussion Three: Paranormal Activity and Halloween

Alrighty, everyone up for another discussion? This week it's going to be a bit more of debate. The topic is: Does paranormal activity increase around Halloween? If you google that sentence you can get a ton of different articles.

A few things I picked out to spur this along:
  • more paranormal activity occurs because of the colder weather?
  • because more people are expecting creepy things to happen and see it everywhere?
  • because ghouls and such are celebrating too?
Time to get searching and debating!

  1. I don't think paranormal activity increases around Halloween. I don't believe that ghosts or spirits are aware of what day it is.

I think the best way to answer this question is to interview people that live in haunted houses. They're the only ones that would really know if there is an increase in activity during a certain time.

  2. I don't really think it increases at Halloween, I just think more people are looking for it then. I'm sure some people find ghosts and Halloween mutually exclusive and therefore only tune into it then. But then again... All Hallows Eve(Oct 31) into All Saint's Day(Nov 1) is supposedly when the veil between us and the other side is the thinnest. Which is why Samhain was at this time of year. So maybe it could be true. In all my encounters it was never Halloween - but I do have a picture(taken by another family member at their house) taken at Halloween that has something quite unexplained in it.

  3. I'm Emily's friend Jocelyn. I think paranormal activity does increase on Halloween, but not really because of the spooky holiday. More just because the nights are getting longer and the cold makes ghosties feel more alive. But All Souls Day is supposed to be the easiest time for the dead to cross between worlds and stuff, so it really could be true that there is more activity around Halloween. I guess I'm on "Team Yes" to more paranormal activity.

  4. I'm on "team yes" too. I believe paranormal activity, if it doesn't occur more, may be reported more around this time of year, because people are more likely to notice it.

  5. I was going to say no, paranormal activity doesn't increase around Halloween, but today was kind of spooky. Mother was helping me with my Halloween costume (FBI agent) and the screen on her laptop kept moving up and down like someone was playing with the scroll bar, but no one was touching the laptop. Then Mother was taking my picture and her camera suddenly went dead. It's never done that before. Right now I'm inclined to be on (as Jocelyn says) "Team Yes".

  6. Conclusion: So we have 2 votes for paranormal activity not increasing, 2 votes for it increasing, and my vote which could be counted either way (since I still think it doesn't, but recent events tell me otherwise). An interesting conclusion either way. Thanks for your posts everyone! Halloween is next week!

  7. Sorry, we were gone this weekend, but we agree that we are supporting team Yes. We disagree if it's just that people are more aware of things, but we also think there's a reason that Halloween is the date that it is. So team yes...
